Disco.coop: Co-founder, Disco.coop – Distributed Futures for Radical Workplace Democracy.
- Payment. Disco.coop is supported by a donor, whose funds cover part of my salary. I receive a quarterly stipend from Leap that also forms part of my annual salary.
- Expectations. As part of my work in Disco.coop and Leap, I want to create stronger networks of trust and shared experiences to create healthier and more effective forms of support and communication between funders, fundees and communities.
- Credit/Disclosure. Leap and Disco.coop are both mentioned regularly in my work with each organisation.
- Perspective. After much time spent, or rather wasted, on outdated and exclusionary reporting requirements, as well as constantly seeking further funding support while also maintaining a regular workload, I see philanthropy – including its sources and effects – as an outdated and inefficient method of creating long term change. I hope to learn from others and share my experiences towards a more transparent and effective way to redistribute wealth in cooperative and radical ways.
- Legitimacy and accountability. While not formally a cooperative, I see Leap as a team that cooperates especially with mutual accountability and trust-building, towards which I have contributed my share of labor and care.
- Potential conflicts of interest: Possible competition for funding (Disco.coop/Leap), although not likely as the projects have distinct remits.
